For the second consecutive year, international graduate school application rates and first-time graduate enrollment showed a “troubling” decline at U.S. universities, according to a report released Thursday by the Council of Graduate Schools.

International Graduate Admissions Decline for First Time in Five Years, U.S. Student Applications and Admissions Increase
With colleges and universities across the U.S. welcoming students back to their campuses this month, the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) has reported that offers of admission from U.S. graduate schools to prospective international students fell 3 percent from 2008 to 2009, the first decline since 2004.

Who benefits from affirmative action? – Whites are key beneficiaries of special admission standards at Washington State
In the midst of all the current breast-beating about affirmative action, the Washington State Commission on African-American Affairs has found that data — provided by four-year institutions and compiled by the Washington State Office of Financial Management show that whites are the key beneficiaries of “special/alternative admission standards” and affirmative action affecting hiring at Washington States’s four-year schools. The beneficiaries include significant numbers of white men as well as white women.

International Graduate Student Enrollment Increases After Three Years
A new report from the Council of Graduate Schools released today (Wednesday) shows that the total enrollment of international graduate students in U.S. colleges increased by 1 percent from 2005 to 2006, after three consecutive years of declines.
