University President Asks State for $129 Million Next Year

DOVER, Del.

University of Delaware President Patrick Harker is asking state budget writers for $600,000 for a new institute that would match faculty members working on renewable energy with research partners in the private sector.

The money would be used to hire new faculty members and retain current teachers.

Harker’s total operating budget request for the next year is 129 million dollars. The request also includes more funding for scholarships for Delaware students and $135,000 for campus security upgrades.

In his capital budget, Harker requested 9 million dollars to renovate Alison Hall. The remainder of the 12-and-a-half million dollar capital budget would go toward other building improvements, new equipment and planning and design work for a new building.
