James Anderson Named New Chancellor at Fayetteville State

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

Fayetteville State University has a new chancellor.

The University of North Carolina Board of Governors said Friday that Dr. James A. Anderson will assume his new duties June 9.

The 59-year-old psychology professor is the former vice provost and vice president at the University of Albany in New York. He also has held a leadership post at North Carolina State University.

Anderson takes over for Interim Chancellor Lloyd V. Hackley. Former Chancellor T.J. Bryan resigned last July amid criticism about a new nursing program and reports of previous financial problems.

UNC System President Erskine Bowles said Anderson is a dedicated teacher, seasoned administrator and proven leader.
