CHICAGO
Two colleges returned to normal class schedules Tuesday after a promised doomsday scrawled in graffiti came and went without incident, and another university was preparing to reopen Wednesday.
Administrators at St. Xavier University were getting ready to reopen after being shut down for several days because of threatening graffiti. The Catholic school has been closed since Friday after the discovery of restroom graffiti that read “be prepared to die on 4/14.”
However, both Malcolm X College, a public school west of downtown Chicago where a similar threat was found, and Michigan’s Oakland University resumed classes on Tuesday.
Also closed Monday were four elementary and high schools near St. Xavier.
The closures came just two days before the anniversary of the Virginia Tech killings and exactly two months after the deadly rampage at Northern Illinois University.
