Professional Appointments

Dr. Cecilia Y. M. Cervantes has been named president of Hennepin Technical College (Minn.). Previously, she served as president of the College of Alameda in California. Cervantes earned a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Texas at El Paso.

DR. PATRICIA ALEXANDER has been named the new Jean Mullan Professor of Literacy at the University of Maryland, College Park. Previously, she served as Professor and Distinguished Scholar-Teacher in the Department of Human Development. Alexander earned a bachelor’s from Bethel College, a master’s from James Madison University and a doctorate from UMCP.

DR. CAROL BLACKSHIRE-BELAY has been named provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Fayetteville State University (N.C.). She received a bachelor’s from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and a master’s and doctorate from Princeton University.

DR. FRANCISCO CORONEL has been named dean of academic affairs at LIM – The College for the Business of Fashion (N.Y.). Previously, he served as a professor at Hampton University. Coronel earned a bachelor’s from the Massachusets Institute of Technology, an MBA and a master’s from Columbia University and a doctorate from Purdue University.

INDU has been named the University at Albany’s first-ever energy officer, a position designed to support UA’s “green” efforts. Previously, she served as a project development engineer for Johnson Controls. Indu earned a bachelor’s at Regional Engineering College, Trichy, Bharathidasan University in India and a master’s at Arizona State University.
