Professional Appointments

DR. MARK BREITENBERG is provost of the California College of the Arts. He previously served as dean of Humanities and Design Sciences at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif. Breitenberg holds a bachelor’s from the College of William & Mary and a master’s and doctorate from the University of California, San Diego.

WANDY CRUZ-VELÁZQUEZ is an admissions coordinator for the University of Central Florida in its new College of Medicine. She formerly served as assistant to the vice president for enrollment management at the University of Miami. Cruz-Velázquez earned a bachelor’s from UM.

DR. KAREN DOWD has been named executive director of the Suitts Center for Career Services at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business. Dowd holds a bachelor’s from Saint Mary’s College, a master’s from Indiana University and a doctorate from the University of Virginia.

MIGUEL ÁNGEL GARCÍA is vice president of financial and administrative services at Northern Virginia Community College. He previously served as vice president of finance and administration at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. García earned a bachelor’s and an MBA from American University.

DR. MICHAEL G. GIBBS is the new vice president of college advancement at Capitol College (Md.). He formerly served as the chief advancement officer for the Astronomical Society of the Pacific in San Francisco. Gibbs earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from DePaul University.

DR. WILLIAM E. HUDSON JR. has been named director of retention at Florida A&M University. He previously served as the associate director of the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement at Florida State University. Hudson holds a bachelor’s and master’s from FAMU and a doctorate from FSU.

DR. LILLIAN B. POATS has been named associate dean of the Graduate School at Texas Southern University. Poats previously served as director of certification in the College of Education. Poats received a bachelor’s from Purdue University and a master’s and doctorate from Texas Southern University.

DR. MATILDE ROIG-WATNIK has been appointed dean of academic affairs at Palm Beach Community College (Fla.). Previously, she served as associate vice president for career and technical education at Broward College. Roig-Watnik earned a bachelor’s from Upsala College, a master’s from Rutgers University and a doctorate from Walden University.

E. RAMONE SERGEE has been named vice president for institutional advancement at LaGuardia Community College (N.Y.). Previously he served as an adjunct faculty member in Columbia University’s master’s in fundraising management program. Sergee received a bachelor’s from California University of Pennsylvania and a master’s from The Pennsylvania State University.
