Professional Appointments

DR. CORDELIA CHÁVEZ CANDELARIA has been appointed dean of Dedman College and University Distinguished Professor at Southern Methodist University (Texas), effective July 1. She previously served as dean of the Office of Strategic Affairs and Regents Professor in the Department of English and Department of Transborder Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies at Arizona State University. She holds two bachelor’s from Fort Lewis College, and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Notre Dame.

FRANZETTA FITZ is the new director of instructional technology at Florida A&M University. Fitz previously served as coordinator for the Office of Institutional Research at the university. She earned a bachelor’s and master’s from FAMU.

 

DR. S. KEITH HARGROVE SR. is dean of the College of Engineering, Technology and Computer Science at Tennessee State University. Hargrove holds a bachelor’s from TSU, a master’s from The Missouri University of Science and Technology and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

OKYEAME HALEY has been named director of planned giving at Xavier University’s Office of Institutional Advancement (La.). He previously served as an adjunct professor in the Xavier business department. Haley earned a bachelor’s from Xavier, a master’s from Washington University and a law degree from Howard University.

DR. ORLANDO E. HANKINS SR. has been named assistant vice president for Academic Affairs at Saint Augustine’s College (N.C.). Previously he served as assistant vice provost for diversity programs at North Carolina State University. Hankins earned a bachelor’s and doctorate from N.C. State.

DR. MICHAEL HERNDON is director of university summer sessions at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Herndon previously served as the director of undergraduate studies in Virginia Tech’s Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. He holds a bachelor’s from Howard University and a doctorate from Virginia Tech.

WAYNE J. HILSON JR. is director of multicultural academic relations in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) (Ind.). He holds a bachelor’s and master’s from Purdue University.

DR. SHAUN L. MCKAY has been appointed interim executive vice president at Suffolk County Community College. McKay earned a bachelor’s from the University of Maryland, College Park, a master’s from the College of Notre Dame and a doctorate from Morgan State University.

DR. JUAN MUÑOZ has been named vice president of institutional diversity, equity and community engagement at Texas Tech University. Muñoz holds a bachelor’s from the University of Santa Barbara, a master’s from California State University, Los Angeles, and a doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles.
