The center, previously called the Treatment for Life Center, is now known as the STAR Health Center – Brookdale and will service as a primary care clinic run by SUNY Downstate and Brookdale Hospital Medical Center.

“Our role of caring for our neighbors is one that we take seriously — we are committed to keeping our community healthy,” said SUNY Downstate president Dr. Wayne J. Riley. “This is a significant effort in our ongoing partnership with One Brooklyn Health and Brookdale to best serve Brooklyn residents. With the extended grant, we are afforded greater opportunities to expand our services and help more people live longer and healthier lives.”

The collaboration was created to fund and support enhanced clinical training, care coordination, mental health, home visits and substance use counseling at the new center, according to a SUNY Downstate press release.

The STAR Program began in 1992 to respond to the HIV, HCV and substance use epidemics in Central Brooklyn.
