Gonzaga to Host 5th International Conference on Hate Studies

Gonzaga University has announced it will host the fifth International Conference on Hate Studies: Building Peace through Dialogue, Kindness and Forgiveness at its John J. Hemmingson Center from April 2-4.

The interdisciplinary conference is sponsored by the Gonzaga University Institute for Hate Studies, the Kootenai County Task Force for Human Relations and the Spokane County Human Rights Task Force.

“The program represents one of the world’s leading interdisciplinary academic forums on hate, related social problems, and ways to create socially just and inclusive communities,” according to the announcement.

The goal of the conference is to empower participants with knowledge to build community within the networks of hate studies, share best practices related to actions that challenge hate and to create interdisciplinary research that coincide with the conference’s theme,  according to the National Catholic Reporter.

Individuals from a wide variety of fields are encourage to attend the conference, such as world-renowned academics, law enforcement personnel, journalists, activists and representatives of government and nongovernmental organization. In addition, the conference invites “international, national and regional audiences to participate, whether as presenters of attendees.”
