Chrite will take office July 1 amidst numerous challenges for the HBCU. A regional accrediting agency is deciding whether to extend or remove the probationary status of the school, which also has experienced serious financial decline.

Prior to the University of Denver, Chrite served in leadership capacities with the Sisters of Mercy and the University of Michigan hospital systems, led the graduate programs at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management and was dean of the Feliciano School of Business at Montclair State University in New Jersey.

He also has extensive experience in the private sector and has taught leadership, strategic management and international business to graduate business students and executives at Eller, the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and in universities around the world.

Chrite, who grew up in Detroit, has a bachelor’s degree in community health services from Michigan State University, a master’s in health care administration with an emphasis on finance from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Ph.D. in management from the University of Michigan.
