Harris-Stowe State University announced that its president, Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack, is one of 13 U.S. leaders – and the only from an academic institution – to be selected as a 2019 USA Eisenhower Fellow.
Dr. Dwaun WarmackWarmack joins a cohort of fellows who are leaders in education policy, finance, urban agriculture, veterans’ affairs, affordable housing, health care and the performing arts, according to the organization. His research throughout the fellowship will explore global best practices for reducing mass incarceration through education and rehabilitation.
“It is an honor to have been selected for this highly competitive fellowship,” Warmack said. “The Eisenhower Fellowship Program in Ireland and Germany will allow me the opportunity to research and develop an unprecedented certificate program at HSSU geared specifically towards the rehabilitation of Missouri’s incarcerated through a comprehensive higher education approach. My vision is to develop an academic proposal that could serve as an educational model toward addressing the alarming increase of Black males in America’s prison population.”
Warmack has served in administrative roles at five different higher education institutions for more than 20 years. At Harris-Stowe, Warmack’s leadership has resulted in a significant increase in the number of student applications, enrollment of first-time, first year students and student retention rates.
The Eisenhower Fellows will travel and conduct research in Africa, Asia, South America, the Middle East and Europe, giving them a global framework to problem-solve and make “the world more peaceful, prosperous and just.”
