WVU nursing gets $800K boost for research work

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – The West Virginia University School of Nursing is getting $800,0000 to hire a research professor and create endowments to support other faculty members’ projects.

Recent gifts and pledges total $400,000, and the school is receiving matching funds from the West Virginia Research Trust Fund, or the so-called Bucks for Brains program.

The largest gift was $350,000 from WVU Hospitals and will help hire a professor to work with nurses on biological, biotech and biomedical research.

Two other donors – alumni Laurie Badzek and Lois Kuhn Evans – gave $25,000 apiece.

Badzek is director of the West Virginia Quality of Life Institute and a WVU nursing professor.

Evans is a professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
