Summit promotes minority health

After more than 2,000 people attending the fifth annual Minority Health Summit on Saturday were urged to find a family physician, fitness and motivational expert Donna Richardson Joyner got them all up on moving around.

Joyner, a fitness buff for 25 years, serves on a national fitness panel, first under President George W. Bush and now under President Barack Obama.

Joyner and exercise coordinator Tarra Reown took the energy level in the room skyward. The two women performed a 25-minute workout that had a gospel theme. She was not shy about references to God or the Lord.

When you’re hopeful, it’s possible,” she said over the loud, pulsating music at the Carolina First Center. “When you’re not, it’s impossible.”
