Tennessee State Students, NAACP To Unite HBCUs

Nashville, Tenn.
The Tennessee State University Student Government Association and its student chapter of the NAACP are planning to bring all historically Black colleges and universities together next February to celebrate Black History Month. The theme for the celebration is “The HBCU Think Tank.”
“My goal is to reunite the HBCU families,” says Jamie Riley, student government association representative-at-large. “We understand there are 118 HBCUs, but want everyone to come together and create one big family.”
Riley says the event is targeted to students, alumni, faculty and administrators of HBCUs. The event is scheduled to take place Feb. 22-24, 2002.
Students will have the opportunity to attend lectures, seminars and leadership workshops and hear renowned motivational speakers. The Think Tank is still in the planning stage, but applications are being accepted from HBCU students and organizations interested in attending.
