The University of Texas has received a $4 million gift from Southwest Airlines founder Herb Kelleher. The gift will be used to create a business center that will carry his name.

Yale University professors Donald Green and Alan Gerber have received a grant of $570,000 from the Pew Charitable Trusts to continue their groundbreaking study of voter turnout among American youth.

Youngstown State University (Ohio) has received a $25,000 gift, the first installment of a $100,000 grant, from the Charles E. Schell Foundation to provide financial help to qualified students in need of emergency assistance.

University of Milwaukee’s School of Education has received two major donations. The family of Hilma Swan Dikander donated $315,000 to provide scholarships to Milwaukee public school graduates or students interested in teaching in the Milwaukee public schools. The Stevens Family Foundation donated $125,000 to help minority students, particularly African American males, planning to become teachers.

University and Community College System of Nevada researchers received a $2.1 million grant from NASA to bolster Nevada’s competitiveness in aerospace science and technology research.

The University of South Florida has received a four-year $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to address the national shortage of special education teachers in urban settings.
