NAIA Postpones Most Fall National Championships, To Decide Football on Friday

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, or NAIA, announced it is postponing national championships in cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball to spring of next year on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. A decision on the date of the football national championship is expected Friday.Naia

NAIA conferences will still be allowed to compete in the fall and winter.

“Given the fast-paced and constantly-changing nature of the current environment, the [Council of Presidents] recognized that the likelihood of safely completing the fall sports season has decreased significantly,” said Dr. Arvid Johnson, Council of Presidents Chair and University of St. Francis president, in a statement. “This decision allows conferences to consider the regional impact of COVID-19 when determining the appropriate time for regular season competition.”
