Purdue Gives Faculty and Staff $750 “Appreciation Awards” for In-Person Service

More than 15,000 Purdue University faculty, staff and graduate student staff will be getting $750 “appreciation awards” for keeping the West Lafayette campus open during COVID-19, Journal & Courier reported.

Purdue President Mitch Daniels congratulated the employees in a letter sent last week, one day after the school moved to online learning for the rest of the semester.

Faculty, staff and graduate student staff hired before Sept. 1, 2020, are eligible and will get the money in December. Part-time staff will be given pro-rated amounts and executive staff will not be given the $750.

Purdue moved to online instruction in March but held most of its fall 2020 semester in-person, with various safety regulations.

“Now we have to do it all over again, in what might even be a tougher Spring semester,” Daniels wrote. “But that’s for later.”
