Mary J. Davis Named Dean of University of Kentucky Law School, First Woman in Role

Mary J. Davis, interim dean of University of Kentucky’s J. David Rosenberg College of Law, has been appointed dean of the law school , effective Jan. 1, 2021. She will be the first woman to be permanent dean of the law school, according to a university press release.

“In addition to her university service, Mary has made contributions to the profession at the state, regional, national, and international levels through scholarly activities, including service as a visiting professor at four law schools and authoring a leading casebook on product liability. She is passionate about continuing to enhance the college’s strong reputation,” said UK’s Provost Dr. David W. Blackwell.

Davis has been on the faculty since 1991, becoming interim dean on July 1, 2019.

Her predecessor, David A. Brennen, was the first African American dean of the college.

Davis is a renowned scholar in the field of products liability. She graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law, and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia.
