Coppin State Creates Scholarship in Honor of Freddie Gray

Baltimore’s Coppin State University has created a new scholarship — the Freddie Gray Student Success Scholarship — that will benefit graduates of the local Carver Vocational-Technical High School. Gray, who died in 2015 after he was arrested by Baltimore police, was an alumni of the high school.

The scholarship is worth $25,000 and is funded through a donation from McDonald’s.

“At Coppin, we are committed to creating opportunity for the students of Baltimore and helping them become the problem-solvers and innovators of tomorrow,” said Anthony L. Jenkins, the university’s president.  “From health professions to nano technology and business management, our academic programs offer a variety of areas relevant to today’s workforce and that of tomorrow. The Freddie Gray Student Success Scholarship will allow students from Carver to excel and realize their full potential as Coppin State Eagles.”
