Professional AppointmentsWilliam Barlow has been named director of design and construction in the university engineer’s department of North Carolina A&T State University. Previously, Barlow served as assistant vice president of finance in the office of the president in the UNC System. Barlow earned a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. Dr. Sibyl Ventress Brownlee has been appointed dean of student development at Worcester State College in Worcester, Mass. Prior to this appointment, Brownlee was associate professor of history at Fitchburg State College. Brownlee earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in American Studies from California State University in Los Angeles, and a doctorate in history from the University of Massachusetts.Beverly Wade Hogan has been appointed president of Tougaloo College in Mississippi. Before becoming the 13th president of Tougaloo, Hogan served as interim president and vice president for institutional advancement. Hogan earned a bachelor’s in psychology from Tougaloo and a master’s in public policy and administration from Jackson State  University.
Teresa Phillips has been named athletic director at Tennessee State University. Previously, Phillips served as head women’s basketball coach and interim athletics director. Phillips earned a bachelor’s in economics and business education from Vanderbilt University and a master’s in administration and supervision from Tennessee State University.Johnnie Southerland has been appointed director of major gifts at North Carolina Central University in Durham. Prior to this position, Southerland served as program director for the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits. Southerland earned a bachelor’s in English and a master’s in regional planning from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Dr. Grant D. Venerable II has been named vice president for academic affairs at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Previously, Venerable was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morris Brown College. Venerable earned a bachelor’s from the University of California at Los Angeles, and both a master’s and a doctorate from the University of Chicago.
