Professional Appointments
Dr. Marcia Y. Cantarella has been named vice president of student affairs at Audrey Cohen College in New York City. Most recently, Cantarella was an assistant dean at Princeton University. Cantarella earned a bachelor’s degree in political studies from Bryn Mawr College, and both a master’s and a doctorate in American Studies from New York University.
Phaedra R. DeShields has been appointed director of human resources at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, she was a human resource management systems analyst at Ingersoll-Rand in Huntersville, N.C. DeShields earned a bachelor’s in economics from Syracuse University and an M.B.A. from the University of Baltimore.
Elza Dinwiddie-Boyd has been appointed dean of the School of New Resources at The College of New Rochelle in New York. Prior to this appointment, she was a member of the founding team of Wayne State University’s Community Extension Centers. Dinwiddie-Boyd earned a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Wayne State University.
Gregory C. Harris is the new police chief at Clemson University in South Carolina. Most recently, he was the chief of police at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Saint Leo College in Georgia and a master’s in public administration from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga.
Jennifer James-Pryor is the new assistant vice president for university communications at Howard University in Washington. Since 1999, James-Pryor has been a marketing, communications and corporate giving consultant for a variety of clients. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University.
Dr. Sylvester E. McKay is the new president of Baltimore City Community College. McKay has an extensive background in community college administration, having served most recently as president of the College of The Albemarle in North Carolina. McKay earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s and doctorate in school psychology from North Carolina State University.
