Colleges Win Grants to Promote Nursing Education
By Charles Dervarics

Black colleges are among 34 winners of new federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services to promote nursing education, particularly among students of color. The $8.4 million in grants cover two categories — basic nursing education grants and grants to promote diversity in the profession. Coppin State College in Baltimore will receive funds under both categories, including $285,984 for education grants and $172,015 for diversity grants. Two other HBCUs will get diversity grants — Tuskegee University, $227,473 and Howard University, $254,749. A tribal college, Oglala Lakota College in South Dakota, will receive $221,508.
