Grants & Awards

Morgan State University (Md.) received a $600,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to establish the National Center for Health Behavioral Change. The grant will fund research to improve public health curricula, practice competence and community health status.

Rice University’s (Texas) School of Continuing Studies received $700,000 from the National Science Foundation to develop an online digital library for high school advanced placement teachers and students of biology, physics and chemistry.

Southern University and A&M College (La.) received a $6 million grant from NASA to conduct research in several areas over a five-year period. Areas of research include, fisheries-habitat assessment, coastal change, land use/land cover change and urban sprawl’s effect on the environment. In addition, the university’s community development program received a $572,528 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish a program that will increase access to employment and business development opportunities for low-income people.

Talladega College’s (Ala.) Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has received a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to study the problem of low African American participation in science, mathematics, engineering, research and teaching.

The University of Washington’s Office of Educational Partnerships and Learning Technologies and its partners in Eastern Washington — Northwest Communities Education Center and Horizons Inc. — have been awarded a $576,331 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to create two community technology centers in Granger and Sunnyside.
