Grants & Awards

Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) received a $48,746 grant from the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) to conduct a GEAR UP Weekend Academy. This MHEC grant was made through its College Preparation Intervention Program (CPIP). BCCC will administer this project in collaboration with the Morgan State University ACE/GEAR UP Program.

Hampton University (Va.) was awarded a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to study the reduction of nitrogen oxide, which causes acid rain and urban smog, for a three-year project.

La Salle University (Pa.) received a $2 million grant from the Annenberg Foundation for scholarships to assist and encourage students to become mathematics and science teachers.

North Carolina A&T State University received $10,000 from Lillian Dillard Harris to establish the John W. Dillard Lecture Series. The lecture series, which will honor Harris’ late brother John W. Dillard, will be an annual event on the role of the natural sciences and social sciences in higher education.

Shoreline Community College (Wash.) received a $489,000 grant for skill-upgrade training for manufacturing and health services industries.

The University of Buffalo (N.Y.) received the largest gift in its history: a $53.5 million software donation from Electronic Data Systems. The software will be used by engineering students in computer-assisted design work.

Yale University’s (Conn.) Child Study Center received a $25,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for evaluation of the “Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service.”
