Dr. Debra Austin has been appointed chancellor of colleges and universities by the Florida Education Commissioner. She earned a bachelor’s in English from Michigan State University, a master’s in English from the University of Florida, a master’s in business administration from Florida State University, and a doctorate in higher education also from Florida State.
Merri Christi Pemberton has been named curator of the Mattye Reed African Heritage Center at North Carolina A&T State University. She has worked with various art and education institutions as an arts and culture educator. Pemberton earned a degree in art history from  the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Dr. John Ellis Price has been named vice provost of the University of North Texas at Dallas. Previously, he was the first full-time executive director of the campus. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctorate in accounting from the University of North Texas.
Liz Riley has been appointed assistant dean for daytime MBA admissions at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Riley has served as director of daytime MBA admissions since 1998. Riley earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and a master’s in education from North Carolina State University.
Laura S. Washington will join the faculty of DePaul University as its Ida B. Wells-Barnett university professor. The award-winning editor and columnist will teach courses in the communication department and in the African and Black Diaspora studies programs. Washington earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from Northwestern University.
Richard T. Williams has been named chairman of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Board of Trustees. Williams is vice president of diversity, ethics and compliance for Duke Energy Co. He has served as chairman of the UNC Board of Visitors and the General Alumni Association Board of Directors. Williams earned a bachelor’s from the University of North Carolina.
