Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, received an $8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to establish the nation’s first research center specializing in preventative medicine for minorities.
North Carolina A&T received a $3 million grant from the Ford Motor Company to support key educational initiatives and student resource facilities. The grant is the largest corporate gift the university has ever received.
Yale University in New Haven, Conn., received a $2.6 million grant from the National Science Foundation to study how animals that travel in packs, herds or other groups coordinate their movements without an apparent leader.
Claflin College in Orangeburg, S.C., received a $2.38 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for its Gear Up program. The college will partner with a local school district to help more middle-school students prepare for college.
Long Beach City College in Long Beach, Calif., received a five-year, $2.09 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to increase its intervention, retention and persistence programs for Hispanic students.
Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., received a three-year, $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to encourage more minorities to enter the health professions.
Cleveland State University in Ohio received a four-year, $800,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help ninth-grade students in five Cleveland-area high schools develop the skills they need to succeed in college.
The College Board in New York received a two-year, $650,000 grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to further research its “Equity 2000” model.
