Professional Appointment

Patrick Day has been appointed associate vice president for student affairs at Temple University in Philadelphia. Previously he was assistant vice president for student affairs/dean of students at Johnson C. Smith University in North Carolina. Day earned his bachelor’s from Northwestern University and his master’s from Texas Tech University.

Michaelle Finch has been named associate director for residence life at Western Carolina University. Previously she was the associate director for residence life at Stetson University in Florida. Finch earned a bachelor’s from Oakland University in Rochester, Mich., and a master’s from the University of Toledo in Ohio.

Cathy W. Jones was named the new dean of students at Johnson C. Smith University in North Carolina. Previously she was student support services coordinator at the university. Jones received a bachelor’s from Barber-Scotia College and a master’s from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

Dr. Gary Lacy has been named associate dean of the Springfield College School of Human Services in Massachusetts. Previously he was deputy executive director of the National PTA. Lacy earned a bachelor’s from Shaw University in North Carolina, a master’s from Bowie State University and a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Catherine Lewis has been named vice president for technology and administration at Xavier University of Louisiana. Most recently she completed an IBM loaned executive position at Spelman College. Prior to that, she was vice president for Integrated Technology Services for IBM in Atlanta. Lewis earned her bachelor’s from Grambling State University in Louisiana.

Dr. Herman E. Walston has been named director of sponsored projects at Kentucky State University. Previously he was interim dean of the College of Professional Studies. Walston earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Alabama A&M University, an education specialist’s degree from the University of Toledo and a doctorate from Vanderbilt University.
