Alabama State Staff Ordered to Cooperate with Audit

MONTGOMERY Ala. — The interim president of Alabama State University is ordering senior staffers to cooperate with an audit at the school.

William Harris issued the directive during a meeting Wednesday. He wants staff members to provide any information that auditors request during a review of the school’s contracts.

The audit follows the ouster of Alabama State President Joseph Silver. Silver contends he was suspended after raising questions about financial matters at the school, including concerns about certain contracts.

Amid the questions Silver tried to fire two top university officials, including executive vice president John Knight.

Knight is among the administrators who are being told to cooperate with the audit. Knight is a state legislator from Montgomery besides working for the school.
