NEW YORK — A former New York City college administrator has admitted faking professors’ signatures to boost grades for students in danger of failing.
Chris Koutsoutis pleaded guilty Wednesday to forgery. The 56-year-old is expected to get six months in jail at a Feb. 6 sentencing.
Koutsoutis formerly oversaw executive graduate programs in business at city-run Baruch College. He admitted forging grade-change forms to lift eight students’ grade-point averages. He says he raised some grades from failing or incomplete to as high as an A-minus.
The students included finance workers whose firms paid up to $75,000 a year in tuition.
Koutsoutis says the students didn’t pay him and he was just “giving them a better opportunity to succeed.”
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. says Baruch’s administration helped with the investigation.
