PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Rhode Island higher education officials say a career training school that abruptly shut down has lost its accreditation, and they’re calling on the school to release student records.
The Office of Higher Education says it was notified Thursday by the accrediting body the Sawyer School’s accreditation has been revoked because it didn’t follow proper procedures. Spokesman Mike Trainor says 300 students were to resume classes Wednesday but were notified this week the school was closed.
He says the state hasn’t been able to reach school officials and that state police have been contacted.
Spokespeople there and at the school couldn’t be reached. The state attorney’s office says one person has called to complain but lodged no formal civil complaint.
Sawyer trained students to become medical assistants and in office information systems.
