Dr. Melvin C. Terrell, vice president for student affairs at Northeastern Illinois University has been appointed president of the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals.  The organization serves as a professional agency for the collection of research and promotion in professional development. Terrell holds a bachelor’s in history from Chicago State University, a master’s in student personnel work in higher education from Loyola University and a doctorate in higher education administration from Southern Illinois University.

Andrea Monroe has been appointed manager of the Central and South Florida Higher Education Diversity Coalition at Barry University. Previously, Monroe was diversity agenda coordinator at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Monroe holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from LeHigh University in Pennsylvania and a master’s in information and library science from the University of Michigan.

Sheila Thimba is the new associate dean at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Thimba previously was at the State University of New York at Brooklyn where she was the enrollment manager and registrar. Thimba holds a bachelor’s in economics and English from the College of Saint Elizabeth in New Jersey and a master’s in political economy from the New School for Social Research in New York.

Dr. Lillie M. Boyd has been named special assistant to the president for strategic planning, institutional research and effectiveness at Shaw University. Prior to this appointment, Boyd was chair of the department of Natural and Physical Sciences. Boyd holds a bachelor’s in biology from North Carolina Central University, a master’s in physiology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a doctorate in physiology and pharmacology from Duke University.

Barbara T. Bowman has been appointed to the board of trustees at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Bowman is the president and founder of the Erikson Institute for Advanced Study and a nationally recognized advocate for training for practitioners who work with children and families. Bowman holds a bachelor’s in education from Sarah Lawrence College in New York and a master’s in education from the University of Chicago.

Curtis J. Crawford has been elected to DePaul University’s board of trustees. Crawford is president and chief executive officer of ZiLOG, Inc., a California-based manufacturer of high performance microprocessors and microcontrollers. Crawford holds a bachelor’s in business administration and computer science and a master’s in marketing, both from Governors State University. He also holds a master’s of business administration from DePaul University and a doctorate in organization and management from Capella University.

Isara Kelly Tyson, an associate professor of English at Manatee Community College in Florida, has won a Southern Region Johnnie Ruth Clarke Award for Excellency in teaching from the National Council on American Affairs. The 20-year-old award recognizes administrators, faculty and staff who extend themselves beyond expectations to meet the needs of community college students.
                                 
Dr. Ervin V. Griffin Sr., vice president for student affairs at West Virginia State College, has been awarded the Governor’s Living the Dream Award. The award was given to Griffin for his leadership in carrying out programs and for sensitivity to the challenges of increasingly diverse and multicultural communities. Griffin holds a bachelor’s in secondary education from Bluefield State College; a master’s in college student personnel services from Western Illinois University and a doctorate in education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
