Dr. George W. Breslauer has been named executive vice chancellor and provost at the University of California, Berkeley. A Berkeley faculty member for 35 years, he most recently served as the executive dean of the College of Letters and Science. Breslauer earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from the University of Michigan.
Veta Byrd has been named assistant general counsel at Rice University. Most recently, she practiced corporate and transactional law with the firm Vinson and Elkins. Byrd earned a bachelor’s from Spelman College and a law degree from Yale Law School.
Derrick Gragg has been appointed athletics director at Eastern Michigan University. He was most recently deputy athletic director at the University of Arkansas. Gragg earned a bachelor’s from Vanderbilt University and a master’s from the University of Arkansas.
Dr. Susan Kelly has been appointed president of the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. She has served as university provost and vice president for academic affairs for the University of Wisconsin System. Kelly earned a bachelor’s from the University of Tasmania, a master’s from the University of Canberra and a doctorate from the University of Melbourne.
Dr. Leo Lewis III is the new associate athletics director for student-athlete development at the University of Minnesota. A former player for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, he earned a bachelor’s from the University of Missouri, master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee and Argosy University and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. David McClain has been appointed president of the University of Hawaii System. Most recently, he served as interim president and previously as system vice president for academic affairs. He earned a bachelor’s from the University of Kansas and a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Salvador Mena has been named associate dean for community living and multicultural affairs at Goucher College. Most recently, he was assistant dean of student life at Brown University. Mena earned his bachelor’s and master’s from the University of Maine.
Dr. Susan Roth has been named vice provost for interdisciplinary studies at Duke University. Most recently, she served as chair of the Department of Psychology: Social and Health Sciences. Roth earned a bachelor’s from Barnard College and a master’s and doctorate from Northwestern University.
Rebecca S. Trammell has joined the Stetson University College of Law as its new law library director. Most recently, she served as law library director and assistant professor of law at the University of Kentucky College of Law. Trammell earned a bachelor’s from Lindenwood University, a master’s from Dominican University and a law degree from the University of Denver.
Bethann West-James has been named coordinator of Alliance for Excellence and Neighborhood Initiatives at Danville Community College. Most recently, she was executive director of Advocates for Justice and Education Inc. James earned a bachelor’s from Rutgers University and a law degree from the University of the District of Columbia School of Law.
C. Ray Williams Jr. has been appointed director of multicultural programs and services at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Most recently, he was the assistant director of the university’s Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program. Williams earned a bachelor’s and master’s from Radford University in Virginia.
Tonya Winchester has been appointed associate director of University Career Services at North Carolina Central University. Her previous appointments include serving as co-director of first- year experience at Meredith College and coordinator of experiential education at Duke University. Winchester earned a bachelor’s from Duke.
