Professional Appointments

Dr. Antoine M. Garibaldi, president of Gannon University, has been elected chair of the Council of Independent Colleges. He will serve a two-year term. Garibaldi earned a bachelor’s from Howard University and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

Dr. David A. Caruso has been named president of Antioch University, New England effective July 1. Currently, he is vice president for academic affairs at Worcester State College. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s from Sonoma State University and a doctorate from Cornell University.

Dr. Paul H. Gutierrez has been appointed vice provost for outreach services at New Mexico State University. He had previously served in an interim role. Gutierrez earned a bachelor’s from the University of Wyoming, a master’s from NMSU and a doctorate from Oklahoma State University.

Dr. Ben Hancock has been named vice president for university advancement at Ball State University (Ind.). He is currently vice president for institutional development at Albion College. Hancock earned his bachelor’s and master’s from James Madison University and a doctorate from the University of Virginia.

Myra Hindus has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president for cultural diversity at the Berklee College of Music. Most recently, she was director of the Diversity Coalition at the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corp. Hindus received a bachelor’s from Brandeis University and a master’s from the University of Connecticut.

C. Andrew McGadney has been named vice president for university advancement at Clark University (Mass.). Most recently, he served as director of development  at Wesleyan University. McGadney received a bachelor’s from Wesleyan.

Ellen S. Podgor has been named the inaugural associate dean of faculty development and distance education at Stetson University College of Law. Currently, she is professor of law at Georgia State University. Podgor earned a bachelor’s from Syracuse University, master’s from the University of Chicago and Temple University, and a law degree from Indiana University-Indianapolis.

Sheila A. Stuckey has been named director of libraries at Kentucky State University. Previously, she served as associate director. Stuckey earned a bachelor’s from South Carolina State University and a master’s from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Dennis W. Weatherby has been appointed associate provost for student success at Northern Kentucky University. He had previously been associate dean of the graduate school at the University of Notre Dame. Weatherby earned a bachelor’s from Central State University, a master’s from the University of Dayton and a doctorate from Auburn University.

Cynthia Nance has been named dean of the University of Arkansas School of Law, the first Black and the first woman to serve in that position. Her appointment is effective July 1. Nance joined the law school as a professor in 1994. She was named Outstanding Lawyer-Citizen of 2005 by the Arkansas Bar Association. Nance earned a Juris Doctorate and a master’s from the University of Iowa received her bachelor’s degree from Chicago State University.
