Louisiana-Monroe Alum’s Family Gives $1M to School

MONROE, La. ― University of Louisiana at Monroe alumnus Eric Liew remembers how it felt to be away from his family and native country of Malaysia, stepping onto a campus knowing no one.

That’s why his family has pledged to donate $1 million to establish an international student center to provide a family setting for future international students.

University president Dr. Nick Bruno said Monday the donation will provide a facility to house 14 new international students. He also said he believes it will help the university recruit more international students.

The News-Star reports construction is expected to begin soon. Liew says he hopes the facility can be built within a year.
