Professional Appointments

Dr. Harold L. Martin Sr., chancellor of Winston-Salem State University, has been named senior vice president for academic affairs of the 16-campus University of North Carolina effective July 17. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Carolina A&T State University and a doctorate from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Gail F. Baker has been named dean of the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media at the University of Nebraska. She was most recently vice president for public relations. Baker earned a bachelor’s from Northwestern University, a master’s from Roosevelt University and a doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Dr. Deborah Reid Bryant has been named assistant dean and director of letters and sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. Most recently, she served as associate dean for undergraduate education in the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences. Bryant earned a bachelor’s from Boston University, a master’s from SUNY at Brockport and a doctorate from UMD.

Aileen Izquierdo has been appointed vice president of communications and marketing at Florida Atlantic University. She was most recently executive director of communications at the university. Izquierdo earned her bachelor’s and  master’s degrees from Florida International University.

Dr. Mickey Burnim has been appointed president of Bowie State University (Md.), effective in September. Currently, he is chancellor of Elizabeth City State University. Burnim earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from North Texas State University and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Dr. S.K. Ramesh has been named dean of California State University-Northridge’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. Ramesh earned his bachelor’s from the University of Madras in India and a master’s and doctorate from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Kenneth E. Redd has been named director of research and policy analysis at the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington, D.C. He was previously director of research and policy analysis for the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. Redd holds a bachelor’s from Tufts University and a master’s from the University of Minnesota.

Kenneth L. Turner has been named vice president of marketing at Simmons College (Mass.). He was previously senior vice president of multicultural and emerging markets at AOL. Turner holds a bachelor’s from Southern University-Baton Rouge.

Dr. Luther S. Williams has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Tuskegee University. He was most recently dean of graduate studies and director of the Integrative BioSciences Ph.D. Program at Tuskegee. Williams earned a bachelor’s from Miles College, a master’s from Atlanta University and a doctorate from Purdue University.
