An expert on Latin American history, Dr. Ben Vinson III is dean of George Washington University’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. He formerly directed the university’s Center for Africana Studies. Vinson has been vice dean at Johns Hopkins University, an associate professor at Penn State University and an assistant professor at Barnard College. Vinson’s scholarship focuses on colonial Mexico, especially the African presence in Mexico. He is currently researching the colonial Latin American caste system.
