San Diego State Greeks Raise Sex Assault Awareness

SAN DIEGO — Leaders of the Greek community at San Diego State University are developing a plan that calls for all members of fraternities and sororities to receive sexual assault awareness training.

The announcement Monday comes less than a month after several fraternity members harassed participants of a “Take Back the Night” march on campus to raise awareness about the problem.

The fraternity members yelled obscenities, waved sex toys and threw eggs at the marchers.

Interfraternity Council President Marc Hess says Greeks can play a significant role in combating the problem.

Hess says all Greeks will be required to take online courses on sexual violence. They also are planning a week of presentations on the topic.

Hess says Greek activities will not resume until the plan is implemented.
