Tracing its roots to a commercial law course offered by the YMCA in 1908, Youngstown State University is an urban research university that emphasizes a creative, integrated approach to education, scholarship and service.

Youngstown State University’s Division of Student Affairs is a student-centered organization working daily to be more inclusive.
As a part of this effort, division staff members continuously seek new opportunities to learn more about the diversity of their students. Fahey compliments the division when he shares, “Our staff are among the most dedicated and most helpful at the university! We love our jobs because we get to work closely with students.”
In their work with students, YSU Student Affairs staff members celebrate and embrace diversity. Jonelle A. Beatrice, executive director of student life, shares, “Student affairs at Youngstown State University embodies diversity and
inclusion through word and deed and reflects the very diverse nature of our institution.”
It is clear that staff members across the Division of Student Affairs at Youngstown State University see diversity and inclusion as guiding principles central to their work. Executive Director of Student Services Matthew M. Novotny says: “Valuing diversity starts at the top of an organization and is reflected in every part of student affairs. …Our commitment to improve diversity and inclusion renews every day.” This steadfast commitment is what makes Youngstown State University’s Division of Student Affairs one of this year’s “30+ Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs.”
