SWEET BRIAR, Va. — Sweet Briar College’s faculty is seeking a meeting with the Board of Directors to discuss alternatives to closing the private women’s school.
Faculty members approved a resolution opposing the shutdown during a special meeting Monday night.
Assistant professor Marcia Thom-Kaley tells The Roanoke Times that people across the nation have suggested ways to save the college. She says the faculty wants to meet with the board to discuss options.
Sweet Briar announced earlier this month that the Class of 2015 would be the final graduating class at the 114-year-old college. Some 700 students were enrolled at the college this year.
President James F. Jones Jr. cited financial reasons for the closure.
