Southern University Reassigns Athletic Director

BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University Athletic Director William Broussard has been reassigned to the Southern System’s president’s office as a fund raiser.

Broussard confirmed the move Thursday.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports that men’s basketball coach Roman Banks has been named interim athletic director.

It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the reorganization but the issue is on the Southern University Board of Supervisors’ agenda for its meeting today.

Broussard was hired three years ago amid NCAA sanctions stemming from inadequate Academic Progress Rates (APR). The Advocate reports he’s been at the center of a university-wide effort to get the NCAA to lift a postseason ban instituted more than a year ago because the university supplied inadequate APR data.
