Baylor University, the world’s largest Baptist university, dropped language in its sexual conduct policy that banned “homosexual acts.”
“These changes were made because we didn’t believe the language reflected Baylor’s caring community,” said school spokesperson Lori Fogleman. “We are pleased with the recent changes to the policy language and that it states more plainly the expectations of the university.”
The policy was amended in May but wasn’t announced until Tuesday.
Baylor’s previous policy had deemed sexual relationships between members of the same sex as a “misuse of God’s gift” and was viewed in the same light as incest, adultery, sexual harassment, sexual abuse and sexual assault. The new policy advises that physical sexual intimacy is to be expressed within the context of marital fidelity.
