BOSTON
Goaltender Cory Schneider, who helped lead Boston College to the last two NCAA championship games, is foregoing his senior season to turn pro.
Schneider has signed with the Vancouver Canucks, who selected him in the first round of the 2004 NHL entry draft. The terms of the contract weren’t disclosed.
“It has been my goal to move on to the next phase of my career, and I’m excited to now be a part of the Vancouver Canucks organization,” Schneider said.
As a junior last season, Schneider led the NCAA in wins, saves and minutes played, finishing with a 29-12-1 record, .925 save percentage and 2.15 goals-against average. Schneider, of Marblehead, also represented the United States at the 2007 World Championships.
Schneider led BC to the NCAA title game the past two seasons, but the team lost both times. The 21-year-old holds the BC record for career shutouts (15), and played in 99 games during his three-year collegiate career, posting a 66-26-7 record.
