SYRACUSE, N.Y. ― A Syracuse University campus security officer who’s a firearms instructor has been disciplined for losing four shotguns that fell out of a vehicle after a training session.
The chief of the university’s Department of Public Safety said Monday that the officer responsible for securing the firearms after the session at a Syracuse-area firing range has been disciplined. The officer’s name and details of the discipline weren’t released.
University officials say Syracuse public safety officers had a firearms training session in Elbridge last October. Afterward they went to lunch a few miles away and realized the tailgate of the public safety vehicle was down and two cases containing four unloaded 12-gauge shotguns had fallen out.
State police were contacted and a search was conducted, but the weapons were never found. Troopers say their investigation remains open.
