EAST LANSING, Mich. ― A male Michigan State University student who was suspended for four years after being accused of stalking a woman is suing the school.
The Lansing State Journal reports that the sophomore, who isn’t named in the lawsuit, was suspended in May after the East Lansing school’s Office of Institution Equity found he violated the university’s Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct Policy.
The lawsuit says the school violated the student’s rights to due process and equal protection in its handling of the investigation. He’s seeking an injunction to allow him to return, attorney costs and possible damages.
The school denied the allegations in court documents.
The office reviewed nearly 600 text messages sent last fall to the woman, who obtained a personal protection order against the student in December.
