Professional Appointments

CROSS TO LEAD MORRIS BROWN

DR. DOLORES E. CROSS has been selected to become the next president
of Morris Brown College in Atlanta. Cross comes from the City
University of New York Graduate School and University Center, where she
is a GE Fund Distinguished Professor in Leadership and Diversity. She
also is a past president of Chicago State University. Cross earned a
bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Seton Hall University; a
master’s degree in special education from Hofstra University; and a
doctorate in education from the University of Michigan.

ACADEMIC APPOINTMENTS

DR.JAMES P. ADAMS JR. has been named as executive assistant to the
provost for academic affairs at the University of Alabama. He has
served on the social work faculty for nineteen years and has held every
academic rank. Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from
Tougaloo College (Miss.); a master’s degree in social work from the
State University of New York at Stony Brook; and a doctorate in social
work from the University of Minnesota.

ALONZO BRANDON has been appointed vice president for development at
Hampton University. Brandon comes to Hampton from Dominion University,
Va. where he was director of major gifts. Brandon earned a bachelor’s
degree in finance from Old Dominion University.

JAMES A. FELTON is the new coordinator of the American
Intercultural Center at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He was
previously director of multicultural services for the office of
academic affairs at Western Maryland College. Felton earned a
bachelor’s degree in psychology, and a master’s degree in educational
administration, both from Western Maryland.

DR. PEDRO J. LECCA has been named professor and dean of the College
of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences at Howard University.
Most recently, he was dean and professor of the College of Pharmacy and
Allied Health at Texas Southern University. Lecca earned a bachelor’s
degree in pharmacy/chemistry from Fordham University in N.Y.; a
master’s degree in pharmacy administration/health care from Long Island
University; and a master’s in social work, and a doctorate in pharmacy
administration/health research, both from the University of
Mississippi. He also earned a postdoctorate degree in Health Services
research from Baruch College of Business and Mt. Sinai Medical School.

KARL TURNER is the new associate vice president for development at
Xavier University of Louisiana. Previously, Turner was executive
director at the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board. He has
also chaired the business administration and economics department at
Xavier. Turner earned a bachelor’s degree in social and political
philosophy from Fisk University; and a master’s degree in business
administration from the University of Kentucky.

CHERYL GARNER has been named assistant director of the Institute of
Black Culture, a part of the dean of students office at the University
of Florida. Garner earned a bachelor’s degree in education psychology
and a master’s degree in counselor education/student development from
Mississippi State University.

MARY L.WORTH has been named chief operating officer of the San Jose
State University Foundation. Prior to this appointment, Worth spent
more than twenty years in various business management and
administration positions at the University of California-Berkeley.
Worth earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of
San Francisco.
