Grants & Awards
Hampton University’s School of Nursing received two awards totaling $1.1 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. One grant for $478,811, will be used to initiate the women’s health nurse practitioner specialty. A separate $627,941 award will fund the Pre-Entry Program, which increases opportunities for people from disadvantaged backgrounds to graduate from a professional nursing program.
Princeton University has received $920,000 in grants to research diversity in higher education. A $620,000 grant from the Ford Foundation will fund university researchers who are beginning a five-year project to investigate the impact of new admission policies in Texas, where a federal court outlawed affirmative action in the 1996 Hopwood decision. The second grant, for $300,000, from the Andrew Mellon Foundation, will fund researchers studying the changing participation of Hispanics in higher education.
Tennessee State University received $100,000 from K.S. “Bud” Adams Jr., owner of the National Football League’s Tennessee Titans. The donation put TSU over its goal of $500,000 for student
scholarships.
