Peter Roby has been named athletic director at Northeastern University (Mass.). He becomes only the second Black AD at a New England Division I institution. Roby was previously director of Northeastern’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society. He earned a bachelor’s from Dartmouth College.
Dr. Maurice Apprey has been named dean of the Office of African-American Affairs at the University of Virginia. He had been serving in an interim role. Apprey earned a bachelor’s from the College of Emporia, a doctorate from the Saybrook Institute and Research Center in Germany and a doctorate from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Elizabeth Garcia has been appointed dean of multicultural affairs at Connecticut College. She had previously been director of the college’s Unity House. Garcia holds a bachelor’s from Brown University and a master’s and doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Frank Hernandez has been named director of the Center for Excellence in Urban Teaching at Hamline University (Minn.). He holds a bachelor’s from Barclay College, a master’s from
St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Leon McClinton has been appointed director of residence life at Virginia Tech. He had most recently served as associate director for undergraduate and graduate programs in residence life at Clemson University. McClinton earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from Clemson.
Karen Mitchell has been named vice president for resource development at Volunteer State Community College (Tenn.). She had most recently been director of business and community development at Hendersonville Medical Center. Mitchell attended VSCC and earned a bachelor’s from Belmont University.
Dr. Vance T. Peterson has been appointed vice president for university advancement at California State University-Northridge. He holds a bachelor’s from Occidental College, a master’s from George Washington University and a doctorate from
Stanford University.
Melvin C. Tyler has been named vice chancellor for student affairs and enrollment management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He had been serving in an interim role. Tyler holds an associate degree from Western Wyoming Community College and a bachelor’s and a master’s from Northwest Missouri State University.
Dr. Yongwei Zhang has been named director of the University of Minnesota China Center. He had previously held multiple positions at Missouri State University. Zhang earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northeast Normal University in China and a doctorate from Southern Illinois University.
