A federal judge has halted Southern University President
Ralph Slaughter’s lawsuit against the school’s governing body and others,
allowing for mediation talks between the parties.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Tyson also issued a gag order,
barring all sides from discussing the closed-door mediation sessions set to begin
Tuesday.
The rulings Friday came after Tyson met with both sides in
his chambers during what was supposed to be a public hearing on motions.
Slaughter is suing Southern University Board of Supervisors,
Gov. Kathleen Blanco and others, claiming he was a target of retaliation after
raising questions about alleged sexual harassment at the school. He was
suspended with pay for two months, but is now back in office.
Earlier this month, Tyson blocked the university system from
firing Slaughter at least until the lawsuit is resolved.
