DETROIT
General Motors Corp. is one of several corporations combining to donate nearly $408 million in software and technology to Wayne State University.
The gift of modeling and simulation tools is expected to allow engineering students to use the same technology that major companies employ and compete for high tech jobs, The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday.
Wayne State will use the equipment to train students in engineering, manufacturing and design needed in a global marketplace, school president Irvin Reid said in a statement.
The university’s campus is just north of downtown Detroit.
Joining GM in the philanthropic effort are EDS, Hewlett-Packard, Siemens UGS PLM Software and Sun Microsystems. Wayne State is the 41st school to receive a technology donation of technology from the companies.
