University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman says she honored but says she will give back a 3 percent pay raise.
Coleman says she’ll give the $15,500 boost back to the university for scholarships to graduate and professional students.
The board of regents praised Coleman for leading the university in the wake of Proposal 2, state funding reductions and the Pfizer closings.
The Ann Arbor News and The Detroit News report Coleman earns $516,501 a year. The increase brings her base salary up to $532,000. Coupled with bonuses and retirement pay, her total compensation is worth about $758,000.
Coleman is embarking on her second five-year term at the university.
